Description

The superb floor standing lamps in this pair are crafted in the Louis XVI style from cast iron, which has been both silvered and gilt to create a bimetallic colour palette. The light is mounted onto gilt vase-form surmounts decorated with putti, rams’ heads, and upper twin handles, the style of which recalls the in-the-round bas relief decoration of the sculptor Clodion. The vases are set atop silvered iron supports, each with three pillars, the triangular connecting mount decorated with swags. These pillars are set upon a waisted gilt mount with acanthus leaf motifs and set on triform bases of silvered iron with circular intersections and scrolling foliate decorations.
