The fine, almost life-sized figures in this pair are crafted from beautiful orange terracotta. The figures are allegorical in subject matter: one is symbolic of hunting, while the other is representative of fishing. The figure of Hunting holds aloft a game bird, as he wears a light robe and stands in contrapposto, his face reminiscent of Michelangelo’s David in his classical repose. The figure of Fishing, meanwhile, holds a fish over her head, while over her right hand is draped a fishing net; she, too, is classically inspired, both in dress, which recalls Greek wet drapery, and countenance. Both figures stand on circular integral bases, which are supported atop plinths with stepped plateaus and bases.
One figure is inscribed 'Arnaud Etienne Henry, Marseille', while both pedestals are inscribed 'M.I.T.A.L/Terrecotte/IMPRUNETA'.
