Description

This pair of watercolour paintings is by Noel Harry Leaver, an English artist celebrated today for his portrayals of North Africa. The works in the present pair depict two streets: in both, domes and minarets bound the horizon, while people dressed in North African garb populate the dusty streets. The white-blue sky hints at the heat of the day, the bright light blanching to pale all the buildings below. The colour palette is bright, and the painterly manner fluid and accomplished.

Both works on paper are signed, one to the lower left and the other to the lower right, ‘Noel H. Leaver A.R.C.A’. Both watercolours are set within giltwood frames, which are affixed to the reverse with gallery labels.
