This exquisite pair of vases, wrought from ormolu and adorned with polychrome champlevé enamel, is designed in the distinctive Renaissance Revival style.
This beautiful pair of vases is designed in a Neoclassical informed, Renaissance Revival style. The vases are formed from ormolu (gilt bronze), their surfaces profusely adorned with champlevé enamel.
Each vase stands on a square ormolu base, the top edge gadrooned, which is raised by four ormolu toupie feet. The waisted socle of each vase is decorated with champlevé enamel: arabesque, scrolled flower heads, wrought from pink and purple variegated enamel, are set above the blue enamel ground. The tapered, cylindrical body of each vase is similarly adorned: profuse champlevé enamelwork covers the entirety of the surface, the decorative scheme distinctively floral, yet abstracted, in nature. Each vase culminates in a similarly decorated, concave-profile neck, which broadens into a flared rim.
The shoulder of each vase is mounted with twin ormolu handles in the form of female busts, each bust set on a scrolled, foliate ormolu support.
