The candelabra in this pair include refined Chinese porcelain bodies and exceptionally ornate French ormolu mounts, the two married in a wonderful example of the Chinoiserie style that dominated French decorative art during the latter decades of the 19th Century.
Each candelabrum features an ovoid fluted white-ground porcelain body adorned with portrayals of floral sprays executed in blue. Each candelabrum is supported by a pierced ormolu base, which is set above a circular veined marble support. The ormolu superstructure that surmounts each porcelain body is magnificently ornate: each candelabrum supports five geometrically constructed light branches, the branches superbly crafted in a distinctive Chinoiserie style and finished with applied dragons and other traditional Chinese motifs.
