This pair of columnar pedestals is a wonderful example of the eclecticism of Belle Époque period design. The form of the column is distinctly Neoclassical, while the manner of the porcelain decoration is decidedly Rococo. Each pedestal features a cuboid onyx base raised on four square profile feet, and each is surmounted by a tiered onyx plateau. The cylindrical porcelain shaft of each is set above with an ormolu capital and below with a moulded ormolu torus. The shaft of each pedestal, featuring a parcel gilt bleu celeste ground in the manner of Sèvres, is painted in the round with a scene of an amorous couple courting within an idyllic pastoral landscape.
