Part of a larger range of decorative works made by the Gorham manufactory company in Providence, Rhode Island, these silvered and gilt-metal flower basket models are intricate and exquisitely crafted objets d'art.
They were designed by Jane Hutcheson, who collaborated extensively with Gorham to create a number of pieces that bear the title 'Fleurs des Siècles' - Flowers of the Centuries, inspired by 18th century Vincennes porcelain flowers. Some works feature porcelain bowls or mounts, others were entirely cast in meticulously detailed silvered and gilt-metal stems, branches, and petals, such as these beautiful decorative works which are set within square silvered woven baskets that feature swing handles.
This line of beautiful artistic jewel-like flowers were described at the time of the collection's release in the mid-1970s as 'blooming beautifully from here to eternity to grow more precious with time,' a line that seems particularly apt given the unfading quality and radiance of these superb pieces.
