The wall plaques in this pair are crafted from spelter. Each plaque depicts a figure, modelled to seem as if they are peeking torso-first through a porthole. One plaque portrays a young lady in Orientalist garb, who glances flirtatiously towards the other figure, a young man who plays a stringed musical instrument. The figures are deftly modelled, and the form and style are reminiscent of the work of Louis Hottot. There are traces of colour on the plaques: the musician wears a red cap and plays a gilt guitar, while the lady holds a red fan and wears a richly brocaded dress.
