This beautiful silk carpet is of Persian manufacture, being crafted under the Qajar dynasty in c.1910. Persia, or modern-day Iran, is widely celebrated for its rich history of carpet weaving.
The carpet is of rectangular form, and has a light orange field, which is framed by two darker, umber and red coloured borders. The entire body of the rug is woven with stylised flowers and palmettes, known as Shah Abbasi.
The patterns on the rug are not confined within a strict geometric composition of medallions and spandrels, but rather appear more freely designed.
Being woven from silk, the rug is of exceptionally fine quality and the pattern is highly detailed.
