Description

This fine jewellery casket is crafted from porcelain and ormolu in the Louis XV style. The casket features an ormolu body, which is profusely chased with flowing, scrolling rinceaux and other foliate forms. The casket is raised on four scrolled feet, with the centre of the apron on each side set with a classicising mount. The sides of the casket are inset with porcelain plaques: rectangular plaques to the long sides, and circular roundels to the short. The plaques feature a bright pink ground, above of which is painted in grisaille vignettes of reclining putti. The casket is topped with a hinged domed cover, which is centred with a similarly adorned porcelain plaque. The casket opens to reveal a velvet lined interior.

The interior edge is signed ‘TAHAN R. DE LA PAIX’.
