Portrait miniature in ormolu and enamel frame

This charming Rococo style portrait miniature features a delicately painted portrayal of a beautiful young woman, the painting finely executed in a pastel palette on the ivory support. The oval-shaped portrait is set within an exceptionally ornate frame, the front surface of which features blue enamel adorned with green, yellow, and red polychrome motifs in the forms of bows, butterflies, and foliage. The frame itself is formed from ormolu (gilt bronze), cast with rich detailing and bedecked at top with draped garlands, flying cherubim, and a tied-bow crown. The entire combination—in terms of colour and materiality—is exceptionally rich and varied.
