This superb clock set is crafted from ormolu in the ornate Régence style, that stylistic moment between the Baroque of Louis XIV and the Rococo of Louis XV.
This fine Régence style three-piece ormolu clock set is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking candelabra.
The mantel clock features a rectangular profile case raised on a flared ormolu base, the sides of the base pierced with rinceaux motifs. The case features a pedimented top, also of pierced ormolu, which is surmounted by an urn finial. The sides of the case are mounted with ornate dragon-form handles, while the dial is comprised of individual enamel cartouches placed within a tooled ormolu setting. The surfaces throughout are superbly detailed with motifs that hint at the preceding Baroque and prefigure the coming Rococo: grotesque marks and Baroque exuberance are mixed with delicate foliate designs.
The pair of candelabra is similarly decorated, each candelabrum featuring an urn-form stem and supporting the springing of six scrolled branches; the stem of each candelabrum culminates in a fleur-de-lis finial surmount.
