This beautiful cup and cover are crafted from silver and enamel in the Viennese manner. The cup is designed in a historicising Renaissance style, recalling the art and craftsmanship of the 16th Century
The cup is of baluster form, featuring a bulbous body raised atop an elaborate stem and domed foot. The body is painted with classical vignettes in oval cartouches, all above a scrolling foliate ground. The lip of the cup is mounted with scrolling Renaissance-style pierced silver strapwork, which is further accented with polychrome enamelling. The cup is topped by a cover, similarly decorated, which is surmounted by a finial depicting a female courtier raising a cup.
The stem of the cup features a figurative trio of warriors, while the domed foot, set to its base with further silver strapwork, is painted with yet more cartouches containing Renaissance style pastoral vignettes.
