This Restauration period mantel clock is crafted from malachite and ormolu—though the malachite veneer is a later, beneficial addition.
The clock features a shaped, curved-edge malachite base, raised on four ormolu toupie feet and mounted with an upper and a lower encompassing foliate frieze, with an elaborate pierced foliate ormolu mount set between. The base supports four tapering malachite columns, each column springing from a waisted ormolu foliate base and terminating above in a foliate capital. The clock drum is set between the columns, and features a silvered dial contained within an ormolu foliate bezel with an elaborate ormolu pendulum hanging below; the dial is inscribed with Roman numeral hour indices. The four columns support the entablature of the clock, which features a curved pedimental top and further foliate ormolu mounts.
The movement is incised with a medallion reading ‘Medaille D’Or / 1827’ and stamped ‘B.P&F.’ and ‘3873’.
