Description

The clock set, which was originally retailed by Overstrijd of Rotterdam, Netherlands, comprises a central clock and pair of flanking candelabra. The central ormolu clock takes a robust, asymmetric, scrolling shape, ornamented all over with stylized acanthus leaf forms and scrolls, all set on four feet. The central circular dial, signed by retailer 'Overstrijd / Rotterdam', is decorated with gold foliate patterns and Roman numerals on a turquoise champleve enamel ground. Below the central dial is a droplet shaped plaque of champleve enamel, with a turquoise ground and scrolls and foliate decorations. The twin candelabra take similar free-form shapes in ormolu, each set on four feet with central scrolled, acanthus leaf form columns of ormolu inlaid with champleve enamel. The upper sections of the candelabra are formed of five lights with drip pans, with further champleve enamel inlays, set on scrolling branches. The movement is stamped 'S Marti'
