Romantic

The Romantic period originated in Europe towards the end of the 18th Century. It was an intellectual movement that encompassed all aspects of the visual, literary and musical arts. One of Romanticism’s primary ambitions was to explore the existence of the human individual in the wider world. In the visual arts, the Romantic style idealised the chivalry and tradition of the Medieval period, and is characterised by its depiction of beautiful scenes in naturalistic detail.
