Description

The nine plates in this set are crafted from Coalport porcelain. Each plate features a central roundel painted with a naturalistic representation of a particular species of fish. This roundel is encompassed by a tooled gilt border, while the cobalt blue lip of each plate is parcel gilt and the edge is ornately moulded.

The fish depicted on the plates include: a carp and a bream together; a common cod; a salmon; a dace; a roach; a perch; a mackerel; a tench; and a golden carp.

Each plate is signed to the front ‘P. Simpson’, while the reverse of each is marked for Coalport, titled with the name of the fish portrayed, and numbered.
