Description

Each with a central half moon ring decorated with fruit and vines, this trio of wall lights is exemplary of the decorate and ornate French Empire style. The crescent shape in the centre of each piece supports five light branches, interspersed with five decorative leaves, sculpted like the feathers on quill ink pen. The band around the front of each crescent is decorated with an elaborate frieze of fruit and vines, and the branches that support the lights are modelled after thick vines that splay out into the supports for the lights on each hand. A spur connects the friezes to a pine-cone shaped finial at the base, and the column upon which the objects are mounted appears like a Dionysian thrysus at the bottom, and a Corinthian column at the top.

Ornate, festive, and indulgent, this trio is an excellent demonstration of the romantic and sumptuous style of the French Empire period. They were crafted in the late 19th century, and are approximately 60cm high, and 40 cm in width.
