Description

The Château de Coulaine, near Gouzon in the Creuse department in central France, is a family-owned wine-producing estate that has been operating continuously since 1300. The château is picturesquely situated above a landscaped lake, as portrayed on this superb Sèvres porcelain cabinet plate. The central roundel of the present plate is painted in its entirety with a view of the château, while the surrounding cobalt blue border is delicately parcel gilt with swags and other Neoclassical motifs.

The reverse of the plate is inscribed ‘Ch. De Coulaine’ and marked ‘S.66’ for Sèvres, 1866.
