Style of Sèvres (French, founded 1738)
£7,500
This wonderful three-piece clock set is crafted from ormolu and exquisite Sèvres style bleu celeste porcelain painted with charming Rococo style scenes.
This superb three-piece clock set is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking ewers, all crafted from bleu celeste Sèvres style porcelain and ormolu.
The mantel clock features a plinth-form case, set to the front with a large porcelain dial inscribed with Roman numeral hour indices within gilt faux cartouches and set behind domed glazing. The case below the dial features a charming Rococo style painting, contained within a jewelled and tooled gilt cartouche, while the convex sides of the case feature similarly painted landscape scenes. The ormolu frame of the case is superbly cast and finished with rich detailing, such as the floriate garland that encompasses the top segment of the dial. The case is surmounted by an ormolu mounted porcelain urn-form finial.
The pair of ewers is similarly decorated, each featuring an ovoid porcelain body painted with typical Rococo style scenes contained within jewelled gilt cartouches. Each features a circular ormolu foot and waisted socle, and each is surmounted by an ormolu spout and an ornate scrolled handle that joins the body with a classical mask.
