Comprising a central bowl and a pair of flanking covered vases, this beautiful garniture consists of a set of three, stylistically uniform, wonderful decorative pieces crafted in the Sèvres style.
Each piece rests on a small, circular, gilt-bronze base, which in turn stand on four fluted stile feet. These elegant plinths are extensively ornamented, with foliate friezes and acanthus leaf mounts, and are encircled with a gilt band, in the form of ribbon-wrapped laurel wreath. The painted scenes to the front and rear of each vases are beautifully executed and signed 'Le Berre,' and depict charming, tranquil, Rococo-style scenes of aristocratic courtship to the front, and ethereal landscapes with river and mountainous backdrops on the reverse.
The porcelain bodies consist of a series of rich gilt motifs against a dark blue ground - an instantly recognisable characteristic of Sèvres porcelain - and a series of swirling gilt borders surround the painted scenes in the centre, and intricate crests adorn the mounts. The handles for each piece are a pair of beautiful classically-inspired female busts, below which an elegant pierced scrolling vine pattern crests each vase. The two flanking vases feature porcelain lids, which are similarly decorated to the bases, and topped with a pinecone finial.
