This opulent Russian silver-gilt and enamel kovsch is notable for its delicate raised handle, a practical addition that also serves to enhance the piece's beauty.
The kovsch is crafted in silver-gilt in the form of an abstracted swan. The bulbous body features a pointed front and an elaborate handle to the rear, and the piece is raised on four silver-gilt ball feet. The surfaces of the kovsch, including the exterior of the body and the shaped sides of the handle, are profusely adorned with cloisonné enamel: abstract, scrolling forms predominate, enclosing three roundels depicting swans in a river landscape. The enamels are executed in shades of blue and red above a white ground.
