Description

Comprising a ink pen handle, a mechanical pencil, and a brush, this Russian desk set was made in Moscow sometime around the turn of the twentieth century. The pen handle, the pencil, and the top of the brush, all feature similarly intricate and elegant decoration and inlaying. Charming swirls in blue, light blue, and white flow down the length of each object, with splashes of red in a floral motif and other colours interspersed among them. The end of each pen is capped with a similar band and a ring of white dots.

With their graceful flowing patterns, these objects capture perfectly the sense of luxury and sophisticated of the late Russian Tsarist period.

The set is fully marked with the maker's mark in Cyrillic, 'IX', and is set within a fitted case.
