Description

This superb piece of silverware and Judaica is exemplary of the work of Moses Salkind & Co., leading London silversmiths based on Mulberry Street and specialising in items of Judaica.

Consisting of a chain suspended backplate with a series of three heart shaped pendants hanging down below, the silver is bordered with a large scrolling foliate cast boundary, with two pillars in the centre, a crown above, and a pair of lions flanking a gilt plaque engraved in Hebrew with the ten commandments.

The name of the dedicatee of the piece is also engraved, and there is open space in the centre for written cards - small plaques that denote the particular holy festival or day for which the Torah is brought out to read.

A fine piece of metalwork and silverware, this charming piece represents some of the finest Jewish craftsmanship of early twentieth century London.
