This unusual three-piece clock set is by the famed bronze maker Ferdinand Barbedienne. The set is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking en suite candelabra, all crafted from marble, patinated metal, and gilt and silvered bronze.
The mantel clock features a spherical metal clock drum adorned with gilt stars and a cercle tournant movement, the hour indices inscribed onto white enamel cartouches and set within silvered and gilt mounts. The drum is supported by a gilt bronze socle comprised of three intertwined Baroque-style dolphins, set above a red marble triform base. The clock is surmounted by an elaborate foliate fleur-de-lis finial wrought from silvered and gilt bronze.
The en suite candelabra are similarly decorated, each featuring a marble base and a gilt bronze stem wrought to resemble a Baroque-style dolphin. The stem issues four scrolling silvered bronze light branches, each moulded with elaborate acanthus leaf designs.
The reverse of one bronze mount is stamped ‘F B’ for Ferdinand Barbedienne, while the clock movement is signed 'Chevillier Fbt. / A Paris'
