Description

This fine ceramic sculptor is by the Spanish porcelain manufacturers Lladró. The sculpture depicts a shirtless seafarer as he navigates behind the wheel of a ship. The man stands in an expressive posture as he wears blue trousers, a necklace, and a cap. The wheel and its support are finely moulded and coloured with blue and gold pigments, creating a rich and visually satisfying surface decoration. The sailor is set atop a ceramic base modelled as a wooden floor, which in turn is raised on a wooden plinth.

The underside is marked for Lladró.
