Zhukovsky, Stanislav Yulianovich (Polish/Russian, 1871-1944)

Stanislav Yulianovich Zhukovsky (1873-1944) was a celebrated Polish-Russian Impressionist painter

Zhukovsky was born in in Yendrikhovtsy, Grodno Province. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, quickly becoming a celebrated painter associated with the Impressionist movement. After graduating, Zhukovsky established his own art studio in Moscow, where he dedicated his career to landscape painting. Zhukovsky’s penchant for depicting lavish scenery and wealthy estates left him suspect in the Bolshevik era, and in 1923 he moved from Russia to his ancestral homeland of Poland.
During World War Two, Zhukovsky was arrested by the Nazis and sent to the Prushkov concentration camp, where he died in 1944.
