Meiji Period Antiques

The Japanese Meiji period occurred from the late 19th Century until the early 20th Century. During the early Meiji period, the Japanese government promoted Western art and architecture. However, the enthusiasm for this soon died down, and there was a strong revival of traditional Japanese artistic styles. Indeed, many of the techniques and materials - including enamel, lacquer and porcelain - used to create the most popular Meiji style of decorative arts were over one thousand years old.
