Description

This superb oil on canvas painting depicts a summertime meadow. The fore- and middle-ground of the composition feature a meadow in full flower, cut by the meander of a small stream. The meadow is bounded by a forest, which lines the horizon and runs towards us along the right-hand side. The sky above is a deep blue, littered with puffs of white cloud. The painterly manner is Impressionistic, with pure moments of unadulterated colour applied with tangible impasto. The colour palette is bright and vibrant, hinting at the warmth of the summer day portrayed.

Signed 'S. Zukowski' and dated '1938' lower left, and situated bottom right 'Pobojka', in a cream painted carved wooden frame.
