This fine set is comprised of three silver-plate entrée dishes. The set is by the English firm Mappin & Webb, which traces its origins back to 1775 and, specialising in jewellery, silverware, and objets d’art, has held a royal warrant since 1897. The firm is especially noted for its production of high quality silver-plate products, and the present trio is a fine example of the company’s work.
Each dish features a shallow bowl with a moulded edge, and a lid topped with a ring handle, which springs from a circular mount encompassed by a moulded frame.
The underside of each dish is stamped ‘MAPPIN & WEBB / LONDON & SHEFFIELD / MAPPIN PLATE’.
