Description

The mirror is of circular form, and the reverse of the frame is heavily decorated in the repousse technique with rosette shells, half moons, grapes and scrolling flowers arranged toward the central rosette. The mirror also bears stamped thughra marks.

Turkish wedding mirrors are a very traditional aspect of the marital ceremony. They are usually given by the groom to the bride as part of a dowry, and will hang in the sitting room for good luck. Mirrors will be hung facing the wall during prayer, at which point the decorative back is revealed.
