Description

The two stools have been crafted in a restrained Neoclassical style, characteristic of Louis XVI period (1774-1793) furniture. Crafted in the 19th Century, these stools emulate this 18th Century style, with its attendant associations of grandeur and sophistication.

Each stool stands on four turned legs, which taper towards their bases and terminate in peg feet. Imitating classical columns, the legs feature banded bases, stems carved with twisted fluting and acanthus leaves, and capitals decorated with foliate bands and beading. The legs are surmounted by square peg joints, carved with stylised foliate motifs. Carved wavy bands and beading decorate the seat rails. The seats are upholstered in a fine light blue, snakeskin-patterned fabric.
