This antique cabinet combines both practicality and beauty. The lower section is fitted with three hinged cabinet doors, below three drawers, with two levels of flat marble surfaces above which can be used for displaying objects or for serving food. It has been made in the French Empire style with a burr amboyna and maple wood structure, and is finely decorated with gilt and patinated bronze mounts cast with conforming motifs, such as Egyptian revival busts and mythological figural plaques in relief. The ormolu plaque on the central door depicts the famous scene of Apollo pulling his golden chariot, flanked either side by figures representing Fame. It is set on multiple paw feet. The lower-sectioned cabinet is topped by a fine veined marble plateau, with marble columnar supports above at the front and a mirrored back, both joined at the top by another shelf with similar marble plateau.
There are multiple signatures for the important French maker Maison Krieger- it is stamped on the top of the drawers 'Krieger / Ameublement / Paris', to a lockplate 'Krieger / Paris', the reverse with further ink mark 'Krieger / Paris / 74, Faubg St. Antoine. 77' and numbered '7.620'.
