This chest consists of two short over three long drawers which are raised up on four turned feet. The military, or campaign chest, was a piece of furniture that was historically used during the war, since its design meant it could be easily packed up and transported. This chest of drawers breaks down into two sections and has removable feet.
The piece is beautiful in its stylistic simplicity. It is rectangular, and box-like in shape, and crafted from light camphorwood, which was often used to construct campaign chests. The three long drawers are each set with a pair of simple, sunken brass handles, and they have a brass keyhole in their upper centre. Above these drawers, there are two shorter ones placed side by side. Each has a central brass handle, with a keyhole just above. The chest is finished with brass fixtures, which are positioned on the body near to the corners of the drawers. There are two handles on each side of the chest, one for each horizontal section, so they can be carried independently and then reassembled on site.
