This excpetional listing is a large Victorian parcel-gilt electroplated suite of epergnes in the Egyptian revival manner, made by the renowned firm Elkington and Co., sometime between 1878 and 1886, in late 19th century Victorian London.
It constists of: a pair of large, central, oval shaped epergnes, which feature leaf supports, and the bases of which are pierced and mounted with a pair of Sphinxes to support cut-glass bowls, alongside a set of four further epergnes, similar in manner, which stand upon rounded triangular bases which are mounted with three winged sphinx. They also feature beaded borders and hanging chains, on three paw feet, and which in turn support a cut-glass bowl. The suite also includes four vases modelled as standing putti that hold a small glass vase raised in one hand, and which stand upon fluted circular bases.
The glass in all cases come with superb engraved decoration, and the pieces all fit within an original wooden case. There are extra spaces and slots within the case, for storage space, rather than because of any missing items.
Large centrepiece: height 19.5cm, width 28cm, depth 20cm
Case: height 37.5cm, width 51cm, depth 50cm.
