This superb objet d’art is a model of a falcon, most probably a gyrfalcon—a species native to the northern regions of North America and Europe that is distinguished by its magnificent white plumage speckled with flecks of black. The present model is sculpted from white agate, the body and posture of the bird naturalistically rendered. Garnishing the agate is a variety of precious materials: the bird’s beak is of gold, and its tongue carved from coral; the eyes are crafted from gold and precious black hardstone, with single diamonds serving as glints. The bird’s feet are wrought from silver, while the wooden stand is mounted with metal and topped with a leather plateau.
The silver feet are marked ‘925’, designating sterling silver.
