Antique Baroque style Italian micromosaic portrait panel
£22,000
This exquisite micro-mosaic portrait panel exhibits an impressive level of naturalistic detail, taking inspiration from the high Baroque style of Guido Reni.
The 19th Century Italian micromosaic panel is of oval form, set on rectangular black slate panel, against which it is afforded a striking contrast. The mosaic work - exceptional, both in its fineness of detailing and naturalism of the imagery - depicts a lady with a halo sat at a table in an outdoor setting, with one hand over a violin, and the other holding a rolled music sheet. The scene is executed in the bold, brilliant Baroque style of Italian portrait painting of the 17th Century, and uses intense colours and a sense of movement in the depiction.
The micromosaic panel is set within a rectangular ormolu frame which features finely rendered foliate patterning around the interior edge.
