The exceptional bronze casting on this fantastic clock set beautifully demonstrates the the kind of intricacy and attention to detail for which French maker Henri Picard was famous. Wonderfully rendered Neoclassical style motifs adorn each of the three pieces to give the set a sumptuous, opulent feel.
The set comprises a central clock together with a pair of flanking candelabra. The central clock is set on an oval-shaped base, decorated around its exterior with relief plaques of scrolling foliage. Above this, the clock pediment is mounted at either side with caryatids supported by laurel garlands with bunches of grapes below. The clock dial, finished in white enamel with a partially rubbed signature, is surmounted by a pinecone finial with acanthus leaves below.
The flanking candelabra are decorated in a similar manner to the clock. Each candelabrum features twin caryatids either side of an urn below the central support, and has five lights on scrolling branches. The base of one of the candelabra is signed 'H. Picard'.
