Description

The exterior of the casket is crafted from birdseye maple and each side of the case has an ebonised border. The front and top of the casket feature a mother of pearl flower inlay at each corner, and these are joined together by a mother of pearl and rosewood helical marquetry design. The base of the casket at the front features a similar design, and it is set on four wooden feet.

The casket is lockable and the top, front and sides fold out to reveal an ormolu stand which holds four cut glass liquor bottles with small drinking glasses on each side. This set contains thirteen of the sixteen original glasses, which are arranged on each side of the interior of the box in two rows: the bottom row contains small tumblers and the top row contains stemmed glasses. The glasses and the bottles all feature similar gilded foliage decorations. The dimensions of the items are as follows:

Casket: Height 27cm, width 34cm, depth 27cm
Bottles: Height 21cm, width 7.5cm, depth 7.5cm
Glasses: Height 7.5cm, diameter 4cm
