Description

This fine polychrome sculptural bust is crafted from three stones: green serpentine, white marble, and red porphyry. The bust is in the manner of Roman Republican portraiture and is likely after an original bust of a Roman dignitary. The bust is raised on a parcel gilt serpentine socle, and the sitter, whose head and face are superbly rendered in porphyry, wears a toga, the folds of which are deftly modelled in marble.
