The painting portrays a Middle Eastern courtyard which is populated by figures and camels. The figures wear loose clothing and fez hats or headscarves. They ride or lead camels which are saddled with bags of belongings and goods. The crowd appears to have entered the courtyard through an arched passage in the centre distance. A mosque, with a tall minaret, is visible in the left background.
This Middle Eastern scene has been portrayed with short, sketchy strokes of paint. These visible marks are expressive and help to convey the movement and activity occurring in the courtyard. The picture has been very skilfully composed and rendered.
The painting is signed ‘O. F. Perrota’ in the lower right corner. The canvas is displayed in a giltwood frame, which is fitted with a plaque reading ‘O. F. Perrota’.
