The carpet is decorated with floral motifs in a sophisticated colour palette including shades of red, blue, green, and cream. The central rectangle consists of symmetrical floral motifs on a cream background, bordered by a blue frame with similar patterns. Further borders in alternating red and blue colour palettes frame the central rectangle, the edge of the carpet carefully hemmed.
Historically, the best Persian carpets were produced in Kirman, the city also being one of the most vital trading places for traders travelling to and from India. Vivid red is usually the primary colour in the design of Kirman rugs, and the example in Mayfair Gallery’s collection is an outstanding example of their superb and very time-consuming craftsmanship.
