Description

The porcelain figure depicts a standing male musician. The figure stands with one foot slightly in front of the other on a naturalistically rendered integral porcelain base. The musician holds a stringed instrument under his right arm, while he raises his left above his head in a dance-like gesture. He is dressed in eighteenth century garb, wearing a green jacket with brown detailing, brown trousers, and white socks. The quality of the figure is especially fine, with the most delicate of details—from the curls of his hair, to the frills of his hat, to the creases of his clothes—deftly rendered. Figures of this size and type by Royal Dux are usually crafted from majolica, so the present example, which is crafted from porcelain, is relatively rare.

The figure is marked to the underside for Royal Dux.
