This fine teapot is a superb piece of eighteenth-century silversmithing, with its body demonstrating the silver decorating techniques of repoussé and engraving.
This elegant silver teapot is of traditional form. The teapot features a body with a lower bulbous section above of a waisted socle and a spreading foot. The body is mounted with an ornate curved spout and is surmounted by a cover. The body of the teapot is profusely decorated with repoussé and engraved foliate and diamond shaped motifs, while the fluted spout is in the form of a mythical beast—replete with an open mouth for the head of the spout. The domed cover is surmounted by an ornate foliate finial, and the ebonised wood handle is mounted to the body with two curing silver brackets.
The underside is indistinctly marked with possibly "PRIA" and "MC".
