Description

This elegant silver bowl was made by the silversmith firm of S Blanckensee & Son Ltd. in 1931 and is a beautiful example of the decorative style of the period.

The bowl is circular and features very well-executed openwork sides with a pattern in Art Deco style featuring architectural and floral motifs. The openwork gives the piece an airy and light look, making it ideal to be displayed.

The bowl’s upper part features a border with bead-and-reel decorative bands framing it and featuring a frieze pattern of stylized floral design, a popular design at the time of the piece’s manufacture. Contributing to the elegance of the bowl, the reel is fashioned in a waved form.

The bowl sits on a tuck-in base which is also adorned with a bead-and-reel decorative band on the bottom, similar to the one around the reel.

The piece features its maker’s mark as well as the date mark on the bottom.

This silver bowl is a charming addition to any tabletop, giving it a splash of elegance typical of the late Art Deco.
