Description

This exquisite vase is made by the renowned French glassmakers Baccarat, who have been making superb glassware for elite clientele for nearly 300 years.

With a rounded body, the crystal vase features engraved intaglio decoration of chestnut leaves and fruits. These decorative elements have been carved into the glass with immense skill, with veined details even on a miniature scale. The vase has a long polylobed flared neck that ends in a waved rim, as well as a flared base.

The vase sits inside a gilt-bronze frame with stylised foliate decoration, matching the theme of the vase itself. On each of the two longer sides of the base is a central leaf framed by circular impressions. From the two shorter sides climb flowing stems, which branch out into tiered petals that cling to the side of the vase.  With its sinuous lines and floral design, the frame evokes the styles of the Art Nouveau movement. The colour contrast between the translucent glass and the bright metallic ormolu is particularly pleasing.

On the underside of the base is a faint, rubbed Baccarat mark within a cartouche.

Combining expert metalwork with expert glasswork, this sensational Baccarat piece would suit any interior.
