Description

The huqqa features a flared bell-shaped base, a waisted and knopped stem, and an outward-flared top. The huqqa is crafted from clear glass with a blue overlay. The clear glass is exposed in shaped panels which are decorated with colourful enamel flowers, gilt floral motifs, and raised beads, as well as detailed portraits of the Qajar kings of Persia, Naser al-Din Shah (reigned 1848-96) and Mozaffar al-Din Shah (reigned 1896-1907).

This huqqa was created in the late 19th Century in Bohemia, a historic region which today forms part of the Czech Republic. Antique Bohemian glass is highly prized for its exceptional quality and for the beauty of its ornamentation. This piece was made for the Persian (modern-day Iranian) market.
