This set of sixteen lacquered wood pen boxes is a superb example of Qajar period Persian craftsmanship, a period of Iranian history renowned for its artistic innovation.
This beautiful set is comprised of fifteen wooden pen boxes, each of which was produced during the 19th Century in Persia during its Qajar period. Each box is cigar-form in shape, with rounded corners and a slide which opens to reveal the interior. The surfaces of each box are adorned with superb figurative scenes of, all executed in fine lacquer. The scenes portray figures, scenes from the court, landscapes, and a whole host of other forms.
