This magnificent Italian late 19th century sculpture by Fatorini depicts a crouched Arab warrior holding a rifle atop a rocky marble base.
The warrior’s clothes are expertly cast from Carrara marble, the artist depicting numerous folds and creases adding to the life-like appearance of the sculpture. The pure white colouration of the stone wonderfully accentuates the shining surface of the gilt bronze used for all body parts as well as the rifle. All bronze parts are wonderfully cast with fine details, such as various anatomical features. The rifle too includes intricate details, for example, detailed patterning near the trigger.
The figure crouches atop a carved Sierra marble slab. Richly patterned in shades of brown, cream, and orange, the marble wonderfully complements the rest of the design. The two marble types seamlessly join together, further highlighting the very high quality of the finish.
The sculpture is signed to the base ‘Fatorini’.
Celebrating the Orientalist style as well as the magnificent work of the skilled Italian artist, the sculpture is a very desirable addition to one’s collection.
