Description

Each plate is circular in form, with a central depiction of floral bouquet in a vase, on white ground, surrounded by a large decorative tooled gilt band.

Each plate is marked to the underside 'P.A.L.T. / CZECHOSLOVAKIA' with a figure of Discobolus, the famous Ancient Greek discus thrower statue sculpted in c. 450 BC, in the centre. This is the mark for Porzellanfabrik Adolf Lauer in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia (now called Trnovany, in Czech Republic), a ceramic factory founded in 1919 and in operation until 1938.
